the MoonWalk in NYC 2013 {uniting against breast cancer}

Print

About six months ago I learned that a longtime friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Learning of the lump, being diagnosed and then undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery all happened so fast for her.  Within 2-3 weeks, her life went from carefree to breast cancer patient.  I'm so happy to tell you that she has finished her chemo!!  She is a breast cancer SURVIVOR!!

Why do I tell you this???  I tell you about my friend to encourage you to check out the MoonWalk in New York City 2013.  The event is taking place July 20-21, 2013.  While it's too late to register to participate in full-moon {full marathon}, you can still register for the half-moon {half marathon}! And, it's never too late to support the cause!  {and maybe bookmark the website for next year if this is too short of notice}

  • Presented by Empire BlueCross BlueShield, the overnight walk through New York City will begin with a participant opening ceremony celebration at Randall’s Island. Walkers will then depart weaving through Manhattan past the city’s most iconic landmarks, lit up brightly at night.

  • Since it's inception fifteen years ago in London, MoonWalk has engaged over 300,000 participants and has raised over $126 million dollars to support vital breast cancer causes.
  • Most of the fundraising from the MoonWalk NYC will be granted to Memorial Sloan-Ketting Cancer Center to help support the Breast Examination Center in Harlem, one of the first free screening facilities for breast cancer in the country where 80% of patients are uninsured but guaranteed support and guidance.

Enjoy this short 30 second video.

Do you know someone who is a breast cancer survivor?  Consider walking in their honor.  Or, have them join you!  Have you lost a loved one to breast cancer?  Walk for them.
