How to Make a ChapStick® Holder Key Fob

I'm a mom. I'm a mom to five kids. Five. That's five set of lips [not including my own and my husband's] that often get chapped or cracked or sunburned. With five kids, you can imagine all of the time I have to be searching for a tube of ChapStick® at the bottom of my purse. Not. Ain't nobody got time for that!

If AWOL ChapStick® is a problem for me, I know it must be a problem for other busy moms. So, I've created a post that will give you step-by-step instructions on how to make a ChapStick® Holder Key Fob. You can attach it to your keys, the diaper bag, your purse, your favorite beach tote, your gym bag...it's so easy to make that you can make one for ALL of those locations, so you NEVER have to search for your ChapStick® again!

Let's get started! 

First, you'll need 

• either heavy weight fabric [like duck cloth] or cotton fabric lined with fusible interfacing to give it a bit of thickness
• key fob hardware [found here]
• scissors
• thread
• a pair of pliers 
• a kitchen towel or a wash cloth
• sewing machine

Now, let's SEW!

Cut your fabric into 2 1/4 x 15 inches. If you aren't using duck cloth, cut the interfacing the same size and iron to wrong side of cotton fabric.

Fold your fabric in half, right sides together. Using a 1/4 inch seam allowance, sew each side of your fabric piece. Do not sew the ends.

Clip corners.

Turn your now 7 1/2 inch piece of fabric right side out, and press seams. 

Zig zag stitch the open end closed.

Fold the zig zag stitched end down 1 1/4 inches. Sew first at 5/8 inch allowance and then again at 1/2 inch allowance.

Here's what the back looks like...

We're almost finished, I told you this was easy-peasy!!

Next, fold the end you've just sewn onto itself 2 1/2 inches. [the zig zag shouldn't be seen]

Sew at 1/4 seam allowance and 1/8 inch seam allowance to finish it up. [see photo below]

It's time for the key fob hardware. Place the hardware on the end of your new ChapStick® Holder, fold your kitchen towel or wash cloth over it [this helps prevent scratches from the pliers], and press closed with your pliers. 

TADA!! You're finished!! Now, make another for your friend, and one for your each of your kids teachers, and for all of your girlfriends...no one should have to search for another tube of ChapStick® ever again!

Last Minute Craft Ideas for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is only days away. DAYS! But, there's still plenty of time to make some Indians and Pilgrims or re-enact the Mayflower. Today, I have a bunch of great crafts that you can make with your kids just in time for Turkey Day!
/1/ Family of Indians - How much fun would it be to put your head on little Indian bodies? Ooh, you could use these as place cards at your Thanksgiving table! How cute would that be?
/2/ Thankful Pumpkin - Cut strips of orange paper, ask the kids what they are most thankful for and create a pumpkin from the strips. During dinner you can talk about all of these things.
/3/ Thankful Tree - Have the kids color this Thankful Tree before your guests arrive. Leave a small basket filled with paper leaves and a marker on a table next to it and have each of your friends and family write what they are thankful for and pin it to the tree. 
/4/ Football Turkey - One thing I remember about Thanksgiving as a child was the TV being turned on after dinner. It was always football. These football turkeys are perfect if you're also a football loving family!
/5/ Bubble Wrap Turkey - If you can keep your kids from popping all of the bubbles in the bubble wrap then you'll have bubble wrap turkeys, too!
/6/ Turkey Hand Print Card - These Blessings cards would be a very nice way to tell someone that you're thankful for them. Keep snail mail alive!
/7/ Hand Print Native Americans - I just LOVE hand print crafts! They just might be my favorite craft ever! So, when I found these little Indians I had to share them with you!
/8/ Pilgrim Hand Prints - Teach your children a bit of World History as they create this hand print Mayflower craft. A teaching lesson AND a craft. Win-win!
/9/ Napkin Holder Placecards - You could either use construction paper or recycle paper towel tubes to re-create these Indian and Pilgrim napkin holders. 
/10/ Chief Headdress Indian Craft - I've always wanted to make my kids great big Chief Headdresses and build a tee-pee in the backyard for a photoshoot. I'm thinking this tutorial is exactly what I needed to make it happen!
/11/ Printable Coloring Placemat - Do you have a Kids' Table at your Thanksgiving Feast? I bet if these placemats would've been offered when I was a kid I would've been more okay with sitting at a separate table than everyone else.
